Newbery Medal – This was the first children’s book award in the world. It is awarded to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children published by an American publisher.
Caldecott Medal – This is awarded to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
Printz Medal – This is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.
Rebecca Caudill Award – The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award is an annual award given to the author of the book voted most outstanding by students in grades four through eight in participating Illinois schools.
Monarch Award – This is an Illinois reader’s choice award for grades K-3.
Cybils Award – This is given each year by bloggers for the year’s best children’s and young adult titles.
